Reef Fishing Charters in the Florida Keys

The Best Reef Fishing out of Marathon, FL

The Florida Keys sit on the edge of one of the most productive reef systems in the world — and Captain Lucas Ponzoa has been fishing it his entire life. Born and raised in Marathon, he knows every wreck, ledge, and honey hole within range of Captain Hook's Marina. When you want to load the box with snapper and grouper, this is the trip.
Reef trips depart from Captain Hook's Marina at 11833 Overseas Highway in Marathon, FL. We run half-day, 3/4-day, and full-day trips for up to 6 guests aboard our 32-foot SeaVee with twin 300 HP Yamaha engines.

What You'll Catch on the Reef

Reef and wreck fishing in Marathon puts you on some of the most consistent bottom fishing in the Florida Keys. Target species include:
Yellowtail Snapper — The most popular reef fish in the Keys. Yellowtail are aggressive, fun to catch, and outstanding table fare. Present on the reef year-round with peak action in fall and winter.

Black Grouper — A prized bottom fish that puts up a serious fight on the way to the boat. Captain Lucas targets grouper on deep wrecks and ledges where the big ones hold.

Mutton Snapper — One of the best-eating fish in the ocean. Mutton snapper require patience and the right presentation — exactly the kind of fishing Captain Lucas excels at.

Mangrove Snapper — Fast, smart, and everywhere on the reef. Great for kids and beginners, and delicious on the table.

Captain Lucas reads the bottom conditions daily and targets whatever species is running best. No two reef trips are the same — every trip is built around what's actually holding on the structure.
