August 2026 Fishing Report — Marathon, FL

August has delivered a great mix out of Marathon this month. Between the reef and the blue water offshore, the variety has been the story — snapper piling up on the rail while mahi and blackfin tuna keep the offshore coolers full.

August Fishing Has Been Strong in Marathon, FL

Here's what's been biting aboard Always Late.

Whether you're after bright reef snapper close to home or a mixed offshore box, the bite has been consistent all month.

Snapper

The snapper bite has been excellent this August. We've been landing quality yelloweye snapper along with vermillion snapper on the reef, giving anglers a colorful and productive day without running far offshore. These fish fight hard and eat even better — a Keys staple for good reason.

Mahi-Mahi (Dolphin)

Mahi continue to be a reliable target offshore, and August has kept that streak going. We've put up strong mixed catches with mahi stacked alongside tuna on the dock — the kind of spread that makes for a great photo and an even better dinner.

Blackfin Tuna

Blackfin have been mixing in nicely with the mahi on our offshore runs. Hard-fighting and great on the table, blackfin have rounded out several strong trips this month.

Banded Rudderfish

We've also been picking up banded rudderfish this month — an often-overlooked scrapper that shows up mixed in with the offshore catch and adds to the variety anglers are bringing home.

Bottom Line

August has been all about variety — snapper on the reef, mahi and tuna offshore, and a few surprises mixed in along the way. The bite has stayed strong all month, and there's still time to get out on the water before the season shifts.
